How to dreadlock my friend's hair
How I did it: We had a christmas fashion show, and her hair had been backbrushed for it. We left it and then I split it into sections, one at a time, twisting the section very tight round my finger and backcombing it with a metal comb. I used wax (rubbed into each dread) to help it hold. We then added beads and knick-knacks in, some sewn in and some simply pushed up the dread until they could not be pulled off/moved.
She hasn't washed it (except with non-residue shampoo) for over a year.
Later we dyed a few dreads bright colours; blue, green and pink, which also spiced it up.
Lessons & tips: Take breaks, have the person sit so they are lower than you because you will get back ache if not, when backcombing each seperate dread twist it so tight round your finger that it cuts off circulation.
NB: My friends hair was wavy/curly which meant it was harder to do, so if straight hair it may be easier to get it to matt and stay easily. [In the photo she is the girl on the right.]
