How to meet my sister
How I did it: When I was searching the Internet to see how easy it would be for old friends to find me under my maiden name, I came across a genealogical record of my biological father's family. I had heard about 25 years ago that he had had a daughter, but didn't think much about it. He was never a part of my life.
Anyway, I searched some more and found out that she lived in Arizona, but not much more. I figured the next time I went to the States, I would try to look her up and maybe get in touch. The more I thought about it, the more excited I got! A sister! I grew up with six brothers (full, half and step).
When I got to the States and started searching, I found a newspaper article about her. She died. So now I can only hope to meet her in whatever comes after this life.
Lessons & tips: DON'T WAIT!!! Don't fear rejection; don't stall because of your own insecurities; don't assume your sibling doesn't want their life disturbed; don't take on guilt for your parents' actions.
