How to loose 5 pounds
How I did it:
History:
3 years of a completely sedentary lifestyle coupled with junk food and alcohol made me swell like a balloon. My weight had crossed 207 pounds, I was not confident anymore and had become less social and shy.
Realization:
This was not the life I had imagined for my self and realized that it was only me that was responsible for it and it was me who had to fix myself. :-o
How I did it:
(Background)
It started with reading, went to the library and started reading books on exercises, running, weight loss, bodybuilding, diets and all I could get my hands on. Also couldn't afford a personal trainer so books were my only option.
(Diet)
Diet is an important part of any exercise regimen, whether its for weight loss or gaining mass or toning the body. It is important as food fuels the body. You can't drive a car on empty. I ensured that I took enough calories to sustain my body functions and drank a lot of water. Replaced alcohol/sodas with juices and snacked on fruits(bananas/apples/oranges) instead.
(Workouts)
Started jogging, couldn't even run for 10mts, but never gave up, session was like jog-run-walk-run-jog-walk. Kept moving for 60 mins without any breaks. Continued it until i was capable of running for 60 mins without stopping.
(Benifits)
Extra weight just melted away. Waist came down to 34" from 40" posture improved, I've had a boost in self-confidence and will power. Gave up bad habits(smoking/drinking) without any problems.
So far i've lost 25 pounds and am looking forward to lose many more...
Lessons & tips: Here's what i'd like to tell from my experience. (I'd still suggest you to consult a professional if you can)
- Don't crash diet. You'll weaken yourself.
- Cut out alcohol and junk food.
- Eat healthy, gobble down on salads, boiled/baked chicken and fish. Avoid red meat. Calculate your daily calorie requirement and eat according to it.
- Exercise regularly, 35-45 mins, 3-4 days a week is more than enough.
- Try skipping, it works wonders for your stamina without leaving you miles from your home. :-)
- Consult a fitness trainer if you can afford it.
- Do push-ups, pull-ups, squats and crunches, they'll strengthen your muscle leading to more burning of fat.
- Occasionally give yourself treats, a burger or a glass of whiskey once a fortnight or so is ok, at least you're not denying yourself. You'll stop eating them anyway if you keep exercising.
Resources: I learnt every thing from books. Do some reading, it'll give you a basic idea of what is required.
