How to witness a miracle
How I did it: mir⋅a⋅cle
[mir-uh-kuh
l]
Show IPA–noun 1. an
effect or extraordinary event in the physical world that surpasses all
known human or natural powers and is ascribed to a supernatural cause. 2. such an effect or event manifesting or considered as a work of God. 3. a wonder; marvel. 4. a wonderful or surpassing example of some quality: a miracle of modern acoustics.
All you have to do is open your eyes. Often we think we know something, so we don't even pay attention to it. The route we always take to work. The walk to the bus. Everything has beauty. Everything is changing. We just need to pay attention. Everything is a miracle in itself. Miracle is defined above as "a wonder; marvel". Well, have you heard that "beauty is in the eye of the beholder." It's true. Whether you see the beauty in something is up to you.
What I find especially miraculous is emotions. Especially love. How no matter how much you fight, love always brings your family together. How your friends are always there for you. How you come home and your lover greets you with a kiss.
Day to day life is a miracle in itself. Sometimes I wake up and smile just because I've woke up to another day.
I really like this quote I found from Psychology Today magazine:
"Nothing happens next. it's not a destination. This is it. You're already there."
We need to savor Now. Be in the moment.
I just came off of antidepressants, and I got so emotional. I cried at
anything that I connected with. I cried with the wind. I cried when I
heard music. I cried when I saw unrequited love. I cried when I saw my
friends because I know they don’t know how much they mean to me. I
cried because of lack of words. I cried because everything was so
beautiful. I cried just to cry. I want to feel that all the time. I
want to appreciate the small things like I did then. I was awed by the
way that my body works to move, the way the moon shines so bright, the
way light reflects off water and makes it shine, the way the snow
covered the ground, the way everything looked so much more beautiful,
the way my crush looked so handsome, the way he walked, the way he
stood, the way he talked, the way he looks through those eyes. All of
that.
I opened my eyes and saw little miracles that I had never taken the time to see before.
Everyone has been exposed to a miracle; they just haven't seen it. Open your eyes. You'll see a miracle. Next time you drive to work, pay attention to the word. The sensations running through your body. The way your car runs. Marvel at how the sun is perfectly situated in the sky. Breathe in the air that you take for granted. Be thankful for life. Love. Live.
