How to recycle more
How I did it: I started doing this properly two years ago. Prior to this it was a very half hearted effort on my behalf.
We get a recyling collection direct from our house every fortnight so it seemed a shame not to participate. The local council supply you with two black plastic tubs, one for paper & one for cans & plastics. (The metal gets separated by a magnet at the recycling depot).
We also have another of our own boxes, for glass so we can take it to the local bottle bank once a month. But we have started to keep our jars in anticipation for preserving.
We also have a composter in our tiny back garden. This will be one of the best investments you'll ever make, I promise! Not only will you feel great about the fact that you are doing the right thing for the enviroment but you will also produce great compost for your garden.
Lessons & tips: Put your recycling straight into the boxes, don't leave them in a pile somewhere in your kitchen as you'll either forget to put them out on the correct collection day OR you'll get so feed up with the ugly pile 'growing' in the corner that you'll give up and throw it all in the bin!
Resources: Check to see what your local resouces are.
Some councils like ours offer a green garden waste collection every two weeks too!
You can order additional boxes free of charge by emailing the Facilities Department.
