How to exercise 3X a week
How I did it: First of all, I got up one day and went to the gym. I had no idea where anything was or how to use the crazy machines and felt like a complete idiot, but I went. Then I watched what other people were doing, and I mimicked them. I started running on the treadmill every Tuesday and Thursday morning before class. I signed up for group classes and went with my gym buddy (who is turning out to be a great best friend) as often as our schedules allowed. I got oriented in the weight room and try to go whenever I think about it.
Lessons & tips:
- Enlist a gym buddy. Motivate and push her, ask her to do the same.
- Don't be discouraged. Exercise is time-consuming and painful. If you gain a little weight when you first start, you are doing it right. Muscle weighs more than fat!
- Workout to music. It is an amazing motivator.
- Set goals at the beginning...and don't compromise them.
- Push yourself to finish that last lap or those 30 reps that you told yourself you could and would do.
- Pick a specific healthy weight to aim for.
- Tape a picture of the ideal body you want to your full-length mirror. When you compare yourself to that picture, it doesn't take much to get you in the mood to burn off that excess fat.
- Push yourself to finish that last lap or those 30 reps that you told yourself you could and would do.
- Schedule time to work out. If you have nothing else planned, it is hard to convince yourself that you don't have time to go.
- Push your limits. You will soon see results.
