How to save money for stuff
How I did it: To start with it meant taking the money out of the bank and saving in a piggy bank just for going on holiday but this wasn't really practical for the larger amounts of money I needed to keep my car going for the first year of uni so I set up an ISA and paid in money every month. I'm now confident that when I start earning more money again in the summer I will have the control to save enough for me to keep my car next year and in the future will be able to manage my finances when living with my boyfriend!
Lessons & tips: 1. On the day you get paid take an amount that you have arranged with yourself out of one account and put it in another, I used an ISA which meant I didn't have a card to access the money with. If you don't think you'll be strict enough with yourself set up a direct debit.
2. Internet banking really helped me as it meant I didn't have to go the bank every time I wanted to make a transfer and meant that I could ensure I transferred the money on pay day rather than leaving it and "forgetting" to do it one month!
