How to fall out of love
How I did it: I had to figure out why I was still in love with him. We'd never really been together, and in the 3 years I've known him I've dated better looking, more interesting guys than him. There was a reason I couldn't let go, and I had to figure it out.
I've had a lot of change in my life, such as moving countries, growing apart from friends, deaths in the family - and my career, as an actress, won't allow me to settle down in the suburbs any time soon. I think that this boy represented something to me. I saw him as something in my life that always remained the same. He lives in my small hometown, has worn the same two outfits for the past 3 years, will leave college and teach history - in short, he has the opposite life to me. I was in love with an idea, not a person.
I dragged two friends out of to dinner on consecutive days, a guy and a girl, and poured my heart out. They both admitted that they had wondered why I was still into him after so long and time away, and that I was trying to cling on to something I can't have in my life, at least not right now.
Lessons & tips: I guess my situation was different, and it would take forever to explain all of it. Grab a friend, take them to coffee, and figure out how you're going to move on.
Resources: My friends.
