How to bike the coast
"OMG! Absolutley smittened...can't wait to do it again."
How I did it:
- searched online for basic bike laws/regulations for Oregon
- searched online for a map of the coast
- searched online for a bike route map
- noted the campsites along the coast
- loaded the car & cooler & took off
Lessons & tips:
- There's a reason prep- I didn't. I was fine but goodness was it a struggle. I was pretty sore the day after but that was it. I have a very strong resolve, but I'm pretty sure most would've called it quits much earlier than I did.
- If you're sick & the trip can wait let it wait- I was sick and it was difficult. I didn't let that ruin my trip but it definitely put a damper on it.
- Check the weather reports- Yeah the rain followed me all along the coast. The wind was ridiculous, so much so that I had to peddle DOWN hill (against the wind).
- Have an out-luckily my brother decided to camp out with me. With all the bad luck factors present for my first non prepped try I finally threw in the towel. I was able to call my brother and have him pick me up.
- Take it easy- while I'm sure you'll be working your butt off remember its not a race (unless it is a race) have fun, take your time, enjoy the scenery!
- The one path to failure is inaction- get out there and give it a try. Yeah I wasn't conditioned, Yeah I was recovering from the cold (brought on by an onslaught of work deadlines/stress). Yeah the weather was terrible. But I didn't let that deter me. I'm so sick of people saying I'll do it eventually when I _______ you fill in the blank. I figured I'd get out there give it a go and if nothing else use it to gauge how much prep I need. The odds of the next trip being so "cursed" are slim to none cause now I have a clue of what to keep my eyes out for. If given the chance to change it I'd still have gone out just as I did.
