Thanks! I see you have the marathon goal as well!!! Any plans for that yet? I have been running LOTS as that is my 2009 goal! I am headed to the Nashville 1/2 marathon at the end of April :)
How I did it: I bought tennis shoes and put one foot in front of the other!
I had decided that I wanted to start running again, after running 7 years earlier in high school. I used to love running, and I wanted to get back into it. I bought some shoes and started training.
About a month later, I went to my first race. This was my first 5k, and I drove 3 1/2 hours round trip to go to this particular 5k..since it was a benefit for Uganda, and I have adopted African children.
I showed up and got my tshirt and race number.I spent some time talking with the race organizers about different humanitarian type of activities in the area.
When it was finally go-time, off we went. The course was a bit more hilly than expected, but it was really fun. They had high schoolers at each mile stationed at corners, banging on large African drums.
I ended up finishing in 25:20, and taking first in my age group. I won a gift certificate to a local running store, and got some new gear before I drove back home.
It was a great race, and the start to a serious obsession with running!
Lessons & tips: Don't increase your mileage by more than 1 mile a week, or you will get hurt!
