How I did it: I applied initially to the Big Brothers Big Sisters program via the website, then had an interview at my local office.  It was about two weeks before I heard back from them, but my references and background check went well, so I was accepted.  I was matched with a 'little' in the school-based program, meaning that I only have contact with him on school-grounds at a scheduled time. 
I was so nervous to meet my little!  I was worried that he wouldn't like me and that we wouldn't have anything to talk about.  It went really well though.  Masen is a first-grade boy who loves to ride his bike and play with toy cars.  I'm looking forward to having a meaningful relationship with him.  I could not be happier that I joined BBBS!

Lessons & tips: This is a great program to get into; it's fun and meaningful for bigs, and so important for littles.  If you're considering looking into BBBS, I definitely suggest it!
