"Quick and relatively painless, I wish I had done this YEARS ago!"
How I did it: I have panic disorder with agoraphobia, with the dentist being one of my worst phobias ever...to the point, that for the consulation I needed an ativan just to stand it. I had at least 8 cavities, needed a serious deep cleaning, and had to have a tooth removed. It was decided I would be put out so everything could be done in one shot. I just went this morning, and they were SO incredibly nice!!! I took 1mg of ativan at 1am, and then another around 8:30am for my appointment at 10:40am. I was scared but no panic attacks. They put in the I.V. and then I don't really remember much after. There was a part or two where I was awake, I asked what the tube in my nose was, and they told me it was oxygen. I said, "ohh" then blanked out again and I remember saying, "are we finished?" and the nurse smiling saying, "yep, all done!" They slowly sat the chair up in increments, until I was fully sitting up. Then they got me to swing my feet over. I was able to walk to the wheelchair, and the nurse came out with us to help me to the car.
So far, no sickness, and discomfort but no real pain. Just REALLY tired and kinda weak. My smile is gorgeous, its like a huge weight as been lifted. If you're avoiding it because you're scared like me, don't be afraid to ask for a pre-med (and I hate medication) and know it will be worth it FOR sure at the end.
Lessons & tips: Definitely listen to the fasting rules they give you, you may be starving, but then you don't have to deal with feeling sick when you get up. Cold packs on the cheeks take away a lot of the pain, and be ready to stay in bed doing nothing.
