How to get corrective eye surgery
How I did it: My vision was about 20/450. I could only see 6 inches in front of my face. That means without glasses I couldn't see the alarm clock, the floor, nor could I put on makeup unless I had my contacts in. Yes, the mirror is only 6 inches away, but my image was 12 inches away and I couldn't see it. LOL.
I sent an email to the local eye doctor that was advertising Lasik and asked him how expensive it was. They happened to be having a special of only $700 per eye. I made an appointment and went in for what turned out to be a very thorough eye exam. Luckily I was a good candidate for Lasik and I scheduled it for the next month (which was the next time they were doing the surgery).
I went in and was called back. I was SCARED TO DEATH!!! Giggling and behaving foolishly because I was so scared. They took my glasses and laid me down on a table. She covered one eye and put the numbing drops in the other. Then she moved a big black machine over my face. All I could see was a slightly blurry red dot. She told me to watch it. I heard clicking and felt a slight pressure...like someone pressing lightly on your eyelid. The red dot got REALLY blurry, then clear. It was over. It took all of 6 seconds. She did the other eye and then gave me goggles to wear the rest of the day and to sleep in for the next two weeks. I went home and slept the rest of the day.
The next day I could SEE!!! I could honestly see!!! My vision fluctuated slightly over the next two weeks and then stablized. I can now see 20/25. I LOVE IT!!
I highly recommend this to anyone and everyone. It is the best decision I ever made.
Lessons & tips: Don't be as scared as I was. It honestly doesn't hurt!!!! They numb your eyes so well that you feel nothing. WEAR YOUR GOGGLES! If you rub your eyes in the night, you could ruin them. Also, for you women, you cannot wear makeup for two weeks until your eyes heal. They are more worried about powder than anything else. It can get in the grove of the incision when it is trying to heal.

Just curious
I worked in a Lasik place, and am fully convinced that it’s a good thing – but not many people have eyesight as poor as mine, and I have no problems with my contacts- what was your contacts prescription before surgery? (I’m a – 8.00 both eyes)

Lasik is wonderful
My contact prescription was -5.75. They told me that they had done people with prescriptions as bad as -10. The only thing that happens when your eyesight is worse, is that it may not correct it completely…or you may lose your close up vision.
My eyes corrected only to 20/25, but that is good enough to pass a driver’s eye test, and good enough to be considered “good” eyesight, so I was happy with it. I did lose my close up vision, but didn’t have to wear reading glasses until just recently to help with headaches. I thought it was a great trade off. I can still see close enough to read…but if i read for any length of time I will get a headache. I cannot see the tiny little details that i used to see…but like i said, the trade off was well worth it!
Thanks for the reply!
I’m glad the surgery has worked so well for you. It’s the close up vision loss that makes me hold off – the dr I spoke to said basically, if you have perfect vision (with contacts) and no troubles, why mess with a good thing. But if my contacts are ever an issue, I’ll jump onto that table as quick as I can!
And good for you being so brave!

I agree with your doctor
I DO completely agree with your doctor. However, for me, contacts had become trouble. Because of the protein build up and only being able to wear them for one day…for one, it was expensive, and secondly, it was a pain in the rear. It got to the point that the only time I wore my contacts was when I had something major to go to. Therefore, I didn’t wear makeup to work and would periodically fall asleep with my glasses on – thereby bending them and at times breaking them. Then there was the one time that the dog was sleeping with me and I fell asleep with them on…when I woke up they had obviously been delicious because they were chewed to bits. I tried not buying tasty glasses after that.
Now, I wear makeup almost every day. I feel better about myself, and i can see the alarm clock every morning when I wake up…LOL. It is amazing how you can oversleep when you have no idea what time it is.
But since you have no problems with contacts…wear them.
