How to donate blood
How I did it: Thought about the reasons why I should donate blood and the reasons why I haven't donated before now. Thought about whether my nerves and fears about needles and other medical-related stuff could be overcome. Found a supportive friend. Got the info. Did it!
Lessons & tips: Take it one step at a time. Visit a clinic, see what it's like, talk to someone there, ask all the questions you want. Then leave and go back another day with a friend. If I'd gone back on my own I wouldn't have gone through with it, having him there helped.
Practical tips: Drink plenty of cold drinks for a good while beforehand. Have a healthy meal beforehand. The first time you go, give yourself plenty of time as there's loadsa forms to fill out. Once you've filled them out once you don't need to do it again the next time you donate. Oh and, once the needle is in, RELAX - you'll be more comfortable.
