How to get a real job by danadoit

"Persistence does count!"

How I did it: Well, after 3 months, I just got the phone call that I received (in my opinion), a real job.
I was just hired at a premiere medical facility near my town.  There are so many opportunities for advancement, which I am really excited about. 
My goal was to get back into the health care field and now the goal has been achieved!!!
I am now an Ophthalmic Assistant and can't wait to get my certifications (which the medical facility will pay for). And more importantly, gives the recognition of being certified in your pay scale!
I have no Ophthalmic training, but when I put my application and resume in, I thought "hey, what's the worst they can say, No?" So, lo and behold, I got an interview. Then a second interview with the Doctor. Then a third interview again, with the same Doctor. Now, just received the call that I have been the chosen one and I couldn't be happier.
I do have medical experience...............I have been a Dental Assistant (2 years) and have been a Pharmacy Technician (7 years) and am right now, 3 chapters away from getting my Medical Transcriptionist certificate. 
During the interviews, I emphasized my RELIABILITY, EAGERNESS TO LEARN, QUICK LEARNER, and PROBLEM SOLVING assets.  I did not emphasize how little I know about our eyes, eye treatments, eye surgeries, eye procedures, eye tests, etc.....
I start on Monday, March 16th. (in only 4 days!!!!)
I look forward to many years as being a successful Ophthalmic Assistant.

Thanks Ordinary Geek! I was very persistent in pursuing my goal of getting back into the health care field. I should mention that just at this one medical facility, in just 3 months, I had applied for 22 other jobs (other than the Ophthalmic Assistant). 6 of these apps are still “being reviewed.”. So, don’t ever give up. (Out of courtesy, I have now withdrawn my apps for the 6 still “being reviewed”. ) I was very excited about getting this position, because in today’s slumping economy (besides living in a very rural, depressed area of Wisconsin), I knew I was going up against people with extreme medical training and even some people within the Ophthamology Department already.
