How to be an organ donor by Emma_Marie

How I did it: I actually completed this goal years ago – I just didn’t have it on my 43 Things list. I’ve always known that I wanted to donate my organs after my death – the more people that do, and that sign the register, the more people there are that will be saved.

It’s simple enough to complete – you just go online and sign the NHS Organ Donation list. Then you let your family know of your wishes, and it’s done. I have a little donor symbol on my driver’s license, and I think my actions encouraged some of my family to sign the list as well.

When I lost my Mom a little over a year ago they asked if we wanted to donate her tissues and long bones (you can only donate organs to age 65 and she was 72), we said “yes, of course”. My mother was the most giving person you could meet…she would have done it in a heart beat if you asked her.

I have a living will, and have made sure everyone in my family knows, I am definitely an organ donor. I do not want to be kept alive by machines, except to give them time to harvest my organs!!!
