How to have a different life by this time next year
How I did it: I'm really shy and don't do well in social situations, so I tend to avoid them and refuse offers to go out, because I get so nervous and paranoid about how I appear to other people.
So I turned that around by simply biting the bullet and going for it when I was invited out. I'd agree to last minute plans, go out late after work, just saying 'yes' whenever someone asked me if I wanted to come along anywhere, whilst inside it was so tempting to just bail out and say 'sorry, I'm busy'.
Lessons & tips: Don't overthink things - just go and hang out with people and relax. Don't expect anything of the night, just chill out, have a drink, chat. You don't have to be the world's best entertainer or the wittiest comedian.
Resources: Well this time last year I didn't have ANY friends. Not a single one who I could count in. It was my first month of uni, and my high school friends went to a different uni, so I was entirely on my own this huuuge bustling place of people where I was a loner. We eventually met up for dinner a couple months later and I got talking to a girl from my year, who I never really got to know well whilst at school, but we bonded over the fact of how alone we were at uni, and how lonely in general, never having anyone to go out with. So we decided to make plans of our own and start going out. And this person helped me become so much more outgoing and confident - it's to her I owe all this.
