How to come out to my family by Jeff

"It was time to be honest."

How I did it: I went to lunch with my mom, afterwards I told her.  I explained my feelings for someone that I was dating at the time.  I told her what the person's name was, it was unmistakable that it was a guy's name.  So I didn't say I was gay right away.  I told her I was very happy, and I was finally being honest with myself.  I wanted her to be happy, too, and not to worry about anything.  This was nobody's fault, this is just how it is.  I can finally be myself, I didn't want to hide this from my mother or my family.

Thank you for the response. That was very nice of you. She was and has been very supportive. I am very lucky, my mom is really one of my best friends.
I came out when I was 21. I am not now 35, so everyone’s had a lot of time to come to terms with it. :-)
