How to play guitar
How I did it: I learned progressively. Slowly playing genres that get harder and harder as you progress. I started out playing emo music. Now I play straight-up death metal (the music i listen to anyway). Learn songs from bands, learn excercises, practice them, and you will be great. You can hire a teacher if you want. i taught myself. It all depends on your take on things. Teachers give a lot of technical aspects. I'm not a tech guy unless it's tech death metal, so I taught myself. I don't know notes and shapes and chord progressions, but I can rip your face off with a death metal riff and sweep.
Lessons & tips: Play every day, don't give up on something you're trying to learn regardless of the difficulty, learn challenging songs, be motivated. LEARN IT RIGHT. If you're learning to tap, don't do it sloppy then go on to another technique. learn it right the first time. You'll thank yourself in the end.
