How I did it: I took a year off of school to have a child, and while it was extremely overwhelming at first, it's been worth it ever since. I filled out a FAFSA, met with a counsellor and signed up for classes. On the day classes started, i jumped in and you'd be suprised what schools have to help returning students! Dont be afraid to look into it, because going into this alone is nearly impossible, especially if you have time contraints and other things you need to focus your life on.
