Hi, I’m planning my trip from seattle to san francisco, and i found out that you went to the same roadtrip 2 years ago. i travel alone, and when i check the price of the motel around highway 101, the prices are very high. Do you think I should book online or just walk-in to get a better rate. My trip is next week. I don’t think it’s high season right now. Thank you very much for the info on your website. It helps.
How to drive the coast from Seattle to San Francisco in my MINI
"This is a road trip not to be missed!"
How I did it: I packed up my car, and set off into the sunset! Well, not quite, but I did not spend a ton of time planning for this adventure. I gave myself four days and three nights to drive solo from Seattle to San Francisco via the scenic coastal route. I had mapped out generally what areas I would stop in, but I didn't make any hotel reservations and mostly just followed my nose. It was a beautiful and peaceful drive and would take this adventure again in a heartbeat!
Lessons & tips: Some places not to be missed:
- Klamath River overlook- take the tiny back road that feels like it's leading you up a mountain only to drop you back off, and be rewarded with a gorgeous view
- Trinidad, CA- darling little town that is a welcome reprieve from the dark roads of the Redwood Forest.
- Point Cabrillo Lighthouse, CA- especially on a foggy morning!
- Absolutely all of Highway 1 is not to be missed! Best drive of my life!
