How to go whale watching by russellviii

"Fantastic"

How I did it: We booked a cruise to Alaska.  When in Juneau we arranged for a whale watching excursion. 

We went out into Auke Bay in a small boat and were able to get up fairly close to the whales. We didn't see any big breaches, but we saw numerous whales break the surface of the water and saw many of them spouting.

I’d have to say that this was probably one of the highlights of our cruise to Alaska.

There are a number of ways that you can go whale watching. One is to book it as a shore excursion with the cruise line. The other way is to just wait until you get into port. There will be a number of companies represented at the dock who will be able to accomodate you.

Also if you don’t want to spend a lot of extra money, there were numerous whales visible from the cruise ship itself. The captain was very good at announcing whale sightings to the passengers.
