How to really make a list of 43 things
How I did it: I looked at my possessions - clothes, books, pictures, etc. - like a stranger to try and figure out who this person is. Seeing, really seeing, some of the things I surrounded myself with reminded me of ideas I had once had, interests I had once pursued. After a week or so of analyzing myself from the outside, I began to remember some old, and not so old, dreams.
I'm not in the habit of remembering things that aren't on my to do list, so after a couple of false starts of remembering then forgetting immediately, I got in the habit of interrupting whatever I was doing to write things down.
It's amazing to me how many things on my list I really, really want to do, but that I simply wasn't thinking about at all as recently as two weeks ago.
In the process of trying to remember what I want, I also identified a number of things I 'm working toward but don't really want. A couple are for financial security, so I'm not sure I can drop those any time soon. But others ... life's too short to spend time doing things you don't really want to do, or that won't get you where you want to go, or won't leave you with a sense of satisfaction, achievement, or at the very least, fond memories.
Lessons & tips: Re-examine yourself, somehow.
Write it all down.
