a great story!
even recent post-breakup cynicism can’t ruin that fairy tale. congratulations! that’s really wow.
How I did it: Well, I met a guy I wanted to be with. Trouble was, we lived in different countries, and he couldn't move to mine, as he was going to be studying for a few more years, and long distance is very tough. It wasn't long before we talked about living together. My parents were of course apprehensive, but soon realised I was very serious about it, and determined, and they know there can be no stopping me then. I had even started to learn Swedish in preparation for the move. It took just over a year from deciding I wanted to move, to moving. The hardest part of my journey was not the arrangements of shipping things over, or the flights, but saying goodbye to my family at the airport, especially since at that point I wasn't sure when we'd next see each other. It has got better with time, and I still miss them a lot, as it is always a trade-off. It feels wonderful to live with my boyfriend, knowing there'll be no more teary goodbyes at the airport, and we'll be visiting my family in April, then they will come here in the summer, and we'll go home to England for Christmas, so it's not too bad :)
Lessons & tips: Be sure you're moving for the right reasons
Plan and do the legwork (packing, etc.) way in advance of having to move
