How to backpack through Europe
How I did it: I bought a Eurail ticket. And ... I just went. I traveled by myself. Mind you, I'm a diminutive 100-pound girl and I was traveling a pack that weighed 55 pounds. It was tough sometimes. I went from Rome to Naples, Florence, Paris, Brussels, Bruges, Amsterdam, Berlin, and London.
Lessons & tips: Talk to people. Don't be afraid to do things by yourself. Pack lightly. Use kitchens if they are available at hostels. Find out where the locals go. Take free tours ... I suggest Sandeman's New Tours if they are available in the city(s) you are in. Bring earplugs.
Resources: Tourist guides, internet, chatting with locals, random luck.
