How I did it: I only ready one "chapter" every day and it took me a while.  Some of the chapters I had to read twice to understand all that was going on.  It was a lot more interesting than I thought it would be and easier to read.  The last 40 pages were the hardest to read becase the author goes into all this detail about people and what their actions say about them and what historians say about different things.
