"Amazing and exhausting"
How I did it: I posted this in "run a marathon" also, but I ran Rome specifically, so I figured it should go here.
I started running again in July, first following a 12 week 10k training program that wasn't for an actual 10k but rather to get me back into running. After that I prepared for a half marathon in Pisa (I'm living in Italy), which I ran in October in 1 hour and 35 minutes. After that I took a few weeks off before starting an 18-week marathon training program for the Rome marathon. During my training program I ran the Barcelona half marathon in February in 1 hour 29 minutes and 15 seconds, and this past Sunday (March 22nd) I ran my first marathon in Rome. I finished in 3 hours 1 minute and 38 seconds, which made me #337 out of just over 11,000 finishers. If I hadn't been assigned the rearmost starting group I would have broken three hours, which would have been pretty sweet, but I'm very happy with my time anyway.
