"Toyed with early retirement but did the math and it's not smart for me to take the incentive now."

How I did it: I went to meetings, calculated my state retirement payments if I retire in 2009, next year, or in two years.  I also talked to some trusted friends with financial experience, and listened to my sons' concerns.  Mostly, I went with what my intuition and my heart told me.
