How to be a teacher
"I took advantage of a program with the school district to get my teaching credential while working in the classroom."
How I did it: I went to the school district office to apply to be a substitute teacher. When I got there, I was told they weren't hiring substitutes, but they would hire me as a regular classroom teacher and train me. I spent a year as pre-intern, and then 3 years in the intern program. It was a big time commitment, but I don't have (extra) student loans hanging over me, and I was working and earning money while I worked for my credential.
Lessons & tips: If your school district offers an intern program for teachers to get their credentials, take advantage of it!
