How to drive cross country
How I did it: A friend and I drove from NY up to Maine, then back down a little, across the northern half of the US, down the west coast, and back across the southern half... then back north to NY. One of the best experiences of my life.
Lessons & tips: If money is the issue, some tips: we camped 1/2 of the trip and stayed in the cheapest motels expedia could find for the other 1/2. Camping at KOA is extremely easy, with all of the luxuries including wireless internet, indoor bathrooms/showers, and prepared campsites, all for about $20 or less per night. All you need is a tent =). Gas is cheaper now than it was when we went, and you can do it in less than the 3 weeks we took, we just stayed at a few of the bigger places (San Fran, New Orleans, Maine) for several days...
