How to pay off my credit card
"Being in debt sucks. Paying off a credit card is like feeling an enormous boulder be pushed off your shoulders."
How I did it: There were three things that were instrumental in paying off the card.
- STOP USING IT - It may seem obvious, but you really have to do it, no exceptions. I started using my debit card for all purchases instead, which basically forced me to have enough money in the bank to buy whatever it was I was planning on buying.
- DON'T WORRY ABOUT OTHER CARDS - Focus on one card at a time, specifically the one with the highest interest rate. Focus on paying only that one off and putting the minimum payment toward any other card.
- PAY SOMEONE TO DO YOUR TAXES - I have no idea how much this would help other people, but by taking my taxes to H&R Block and paying a guy about 300 bucks to do them, I had a $2,000 refund turned into a $6,000 refund, which covered an entire card's balance all by itself.
#1 and #2 are the most important, but #3 was the most valuable for me personally.
