How to meet my English cousins.
"It was unlikely and amazing."
How I did it: All I had to go on was my father's memory of his father's full name and that he came from Philadelphia. The rest I tracked down from antique street directories, federal censuses, genealogy resources, and finally, a genealogist who specialized in Philadelphia.
Then I used Ancestry.com to find the English side of the family, but I couldn't have found them without the previous work on this side of the Pond.
Lessons & tips: Be persistent. Don't give up if you hit a brick wall; be creative and use all the tools and resources you can. Know when you've done all you can and need to ask for help from an expert.
