How to grow my own vegetables
How I did it: We finally got around to landscaping the back yard.
We then planted some vegies. Just go to your local nursery and buy seedlings of anything that you're going to eat. If you don't eat brussel sprouts, don't buy them.
Almost everything thrived. One thing we purchased was a cherry tomato. It more than thrived, they took off .. and almost took over the entire back yard! I was almost scared to go out the back door! (See the picture .. that garden bed is 2.4m wide (8 ft)). It's had hundreds of tomatoes grow over the season and many have ended up going to waste.
Lessons & tips: We used mushroom compost with water crystals mixed through it and muched with pea straw. We didn't fertilize.
Keep the weeds down. It's easy to pull one-or-two, but if you leave it a couple of weeks, there will just be too many and you've lost the fight for another year.
