How to plant a tree
How I did it: I joined a conservation volunteers group. We go out to various place around the metro area. They provide the plants, spades, planting aides, buckets of water for the plants, hats, sunscreen and anything else you may need there. Any information you want to find out about hte plants is in their library, which is really cool.
I've also volunteered at a community garden. Planting native shrubs and trees along with vegetables was a lot of fun.
Revegitating my local area is fantastic. Makes me feel really good after seeing all the plants in and fauna settling into the idea that there's food, shelter and nesting sites available again. Watching the plants grow is really lovely.
Lessons & tips: Ask around! Get to know your local council, check out conservation groups and find out about community gardens in your area.
Always bring water, gloves, sunscreen, hat and food, ask if you'll need to bring anything else.
Volunteering is great! I love it, but be careful that you don't get exploited or over worked. If youre tired or not feeling well, let the others know! Ask lots of questions and have fun!
