How I did it: I took a module in basic chinese in my university.. it was fun learning the language. if writing the text was tough, pronouncing the words were a pain in the neck. I needed to lose all shame and shout out however and whatever I had to say to make myself understood. Sadly though, i haven't been practising and whatever little I had learnt has become quite rusty! :(
