How to walk 10,000 steps a day
"I am still walking. Walking is good for so many reasons. "
How I did it:
- I started slow so that I would not burn out and stop walking. It took 35 days of really pushing towards it, and the walking then became a habit.
- The hardest thing was looking down at the pedometer, thinking I had reached the goal and realizing that I was well short of it. That got to be a little frustrating.
- I then began to challenge myself to little goals before I made it to 10,000 steps. That makes it easier.
- Drink water before your walk and after. I did not carry water with me because I wanted to have my hands free
- Wear a flashlight and reflective gear if out at dusk or dark. I used a clip on booklight with super bright LEDs that I still use, I can aim the light and I feel safer.
Lessons & tips:
- Mix it up. Walk in different places.
- Bring a pet (on a leash)
- Alternate between music and no music
- Bring a cell phone in case you need help.
- Don't chat on the cell phone. I never walked briskly when I was on the phone.
Resources: I read a lot of information online about walking and that really motivated me.
