How to sort out my sleeping pattern
How I did it: Part of this accomplishment comes from getting another job.
Yes, I still work behind a bar, but gone are the days I'd be expected to start work at 2pm and finish at 4am - and sometimes maybe later.
The upshot is I'm now awake for no more than two thirds of my day, which are used for the recommended 'work' and 'play', leaving the other third for sleeping - the 'rest' in the trinity of lifestyle zen.
Lessons & tips: First step in any attempt at progress must be to isolate and identify the primary hindrance to your ability to sleep. For me it was quite simple to identify but rather a lot harder to alleviate.
My problem was that I was consciously aware that I needed to get out of my job, which was the only way I could see of changing my working hours pattern; but I was unable to break my schedule to go jobhunting, due to already being in work.
Catch-22.
Luckily, I was made redundant, forcing me into jobsearching every day, which was quite a full-time job in and of itself.
Once you've identified the cause of the problem, you can start to work on the solution.
Resources: I really must thank my former employer for being such an ass and letting me go without notice. I've really never felt better!
