"It was an adventure."
How I did it: I've always wanted to be more independent and live on my own in another city or country. To test the waters, I decided to travel on my own first. I planned a two-week trip to Europe -- the first week with a friend and the second week solo. Having a friend to navigate the city with during the first week really helped. Moving on to a new city in the second week, alone, was a little bit scary but exciting. It really helped to plan things ahead of time -- like where I was going to stay, how I planned to get there, and what I wanted to do in the city. I didn't set an itinerary for myself and mostly just explored. Joining a day tour was a good idea because I was able to meet people. The hostel was also a good place to meet people as well.
Lessons & tips: Plan ahead. Buy a map so you won't get lost. Figure out bus routes ahead of time. Be open to meeting new people.
