How I did it: It took me three years on average to become fluent in French, all up, it included french schooling, an exchange year in a french speaking country and a french major as part of a linguistics Bachelors degree at University.
Lessons & tips: Surround yourself with people who use French as their native tongue. Join French clubs, watch french movies, read french books... just totally immerse yourself from the beginning.
