How to build a house with habitat for humanity
How I did it: I called the local chapter of Habitat for Humanity and asked how I could help. Since I don't have a background or any experience with technical building work like plumbing, electrical, etc., they said that I could help with painting.
Two weeks later, I brought with me a bunch of paint rollers, paint brushes, and paint tins, and I rode with their caravan into Mexico. There, I helped to paint the exterior of several small houses that Habitat for Humanity volunteers had already finished building. We were there, basically from sun up to sun down. It was hard work, but we all didn't want to waste any time because we were only there for the day and we wanted to finish painting as many houses as we could.
I was wonderful to see some of the families who were going to live in these houses. Some even picked up a paint brush and painted along side us! The families were very grateful and it was awesome to help them in the simple way I could :-D
