How to buy a typewriter
How I did it: I saw one in a Charity shop. A man donated it whilst I was making a donation. I was too scared to ask how much they wanted for it, as it was still in the stock room.
So I went to get my haircut, then after my haircut I came back to the charity shop to buy a CD. The lady at the till didn't have enough change for my £10 note, so she sent me out to buy a chocolate bar to get change.
Because I'd done her a favour, I felt confident enough to ask about a price for the typewriter.
It was £4.99 and I bought it there and then.
It works beautiful and gives me a creative, writerly feeling.
Lessons & tips:
- Keep looking everywhere. Once you're looking, one will turn up.
- If you can't find one second hand, consider saving up for a new one. They're only about £70 - £80.
