How I did it: Got a position where I was working 30 days on, and 30 days off, so I could locate myself anywhere I wanted to stay on my off time, so on my time off I stayed in long term motels, and scouted the area for the neighborhoods I liked the best, then started hunting down an apartment, I found one about a block from the beach.
Lessons & tips: Gotta have more than a plan for work, you should get some in where you want to live, scout jobs, and be prepared to move and start, since so much of the state is tourist driven, you can find motels that offer week to week rentals with no deposits, and fully furnished living spaces.
