"Doing something new pushed me out of my comfort zone and allowed me to discover new interests."
How I did it: I acted as if I was a tourist in my town at first by getting information from the Chamber of Commerce. I also checked local bookstores for groups with similar interests and asked everyone I met if there was anything they would recommend I see and do. All of these resources gave me ideas for things I could do at least once every month.
Lessons & tips: The hardest part is actually getting out and doing something. Be open to trying everything at least once. Check out your local paper for local weekend event. You'll be surprised how many free things you can find to do.
Resources: Meetup.com was a great starting point to finding established groups with similar interests.
