How to see the Portland Chinese Garden
How I did it: I live in downtown Portland, so I walked there with my husband. I have known about the Chinese Garden since we moved here nearly three years ago. For whatever reason, we had yet to see this unique place. So today we decided to do "Portland things" to celebrate our forth wedding anniversary. We walked to Chinatown and the garden after visiting the Portland Saturday Market. In all, with the browsing, shopping, touring, and tea, we had a terrific day in the city that is our home.
Lessons & tips: If you live in the heart of a city, take advantage of the hidden gems that are at your doorstep. Even if there are tourists and a fee, you are bound to see something pleasing and learn something new. Gardens and museums are very refreshing this time of year. Special note: A trip to the Chinese Garden is not complete without a wrap up in their tea room. Here you can order a "flight" or sample of several tasty teas that are offered. I also recommend the coconut tarts and lychee nuts. Yummy!
Resources: I make a mental list of things I find interesting when I am out wandering downtown with my camera. When I get home, I write down the streets/places that I want to revisit. I also have Portland guide books, a downtown walking map, and a regular Portland map.
