How to visit Paris again
How I did it: The thing with trips is that you have to save money for it. Not just for the hotel and the flight but also for you stay upon arrival. You really have to decide if you think the trip is worth the money and when you have figured out that one, you can start saving especially for your trip. When you have your money saved up, look on different sites for hotels and flights. I looked for approximately a month and in the end I found a direct flight from Stockholm to Paris back and forward for 100 euro. The hotel costed 500 euros for 5 nights for me and my boyfriend. And the hotel was great by french standards, right by La Fayette and near the metro station. When you save your money, keep in mind that Paris is expensive, (As a comparison: New York was cheap by my swedish measurements and London was okey) 13 euro for a pizza and 7 euro for juice at Champs Elyssés. So keep saving up.
Lessons & tips:
- Save money.
- And yes, Paris is the country of couture/fashion and the designers are well aware of this which makes the prices totally ridiculous. It's not worth buying Chanel just because you're in Paris. But if you do have this kind of money: Avenue Montaigne is the place to be, not Champs Elyssés.
- Eat Macarons at Laduree and eat crepés everywhere.
- All the stores are closed on Sundays, and I really mean all of them.
- Most of the museums are closed on Tuesdays, that includes Louvre.
- Speaking of Louvre: Mona Lisa is not that big of a deal. Try to see the rest of the museum
- If it's nice weather outside, spend a couple of hours in Jardin du Luxembourg, it's truly magnificent.
- The french do speak english, okey at least most of them, so don't worry about the language. But always say "Bonjour" or "Bonsoir" when you enter a store.
- If you are going to be in Paris for more then 3 days, buy a Paris Visite-card for the metro and print a metro map at www.ratp.com
