How to drive less
How I did it: Moved to a neighbourhood where I can walk or bike to everything I need after work and weekends. Found a carpool buddy for the workdays. Put the word out there and waited to see what happened. No one will be able to carpool with you unless you make your intention known. Start small. It doesn't have to be every day.
Lessons & tips: Don't start with drastic change that is unsustainable. My first goal was to carpool or take transit to work one day a month (given my work is a long way from home and public transit sucks). I found a workmate who lives halfway to work and took transit to her place to avoid my car. Once word got out I was looking to carpool, I eventually found my current carpool buddy. Our goal is to carpool once or twice a week due to our different schedules, etc. Most weeks we do that. It would be too crazy to commit to more. By doing this 4-5 days a month, that's over 20% of work days per month. For now, that will do.
