How to bathe in a natural hot spring...
How I did it: We went to Hokkaido, Japan, for one of my dad's college reunion trips. Almost each day, we stayed at a hotel that had hot springs. Either at the beginning of the day before our sight-seeing began or at the end of the day, we could go and enjoy the hot springs at the hotel. The temperature of the hot springs was quite warm (110 degrees, if I remember it correctly). You weren't supposed to be in the hot springs for more than a few minutes at a time. Then you could cool off in a cooler pool before going back in the hot springs. In Japan, one must be complete naked when entering. No swimming suits or trunks, no underwear, no towels. But, the hot springs we went to were same gender ones. No one seemed to be very conscientious about who looked like what, and there were all kinds of body types.
Lessons & tips: No suggestions. The hot springs we went to Japan, no clothing whatsoever is allowed. They were same gender hot springs.
