How to get my teeth cleaned
How I did it: I work 3 blocks away from my dentist and every time I drove by I would tell myself that I needed to make an appointment. I don't know how many times I must have repeated that pattern before I finally called. It was one of those things on the bottom of my to-do list, I suppose. When I arrived, they told me that I hadn't been in 3 years -- which honestly came as a surprise to me because it hadn't felt that long. When I arrived, they immediately booked me for another cleaning 6 months out so that I wouldn't forget or try to wiggle my way out.
Lessons & tips: If it crosses your mind that you "should" get your teeth cleaned, just do it! Don't put it off because, before you know it, it could be 3 years down the road before you finally get there.
When you arrive to your dentist's office, make an appointment for 6 months down the road. My dentist will call me a couple days ahead so that I don't forget.
In the meantime, use a Sonicare toothbrush and floss your teeth every day -- I think this saved me from producing more cavities during my 3 year lapse.
My dentist was surprised that I had 2 cavities being that my hygiene was so good but she asked me if I had a dry mouth and, in fact, I had been experiencing a dry mouth because I had been consuming more coffee than normal in the last year. This could have been a contributing factor.
