How I did it: I saved up some funds, paid off some debt, and became VERY ACTIVE with my apartment search.
Make sure that you NOT ONLY have enough funds for deposi and first month's rent, but also deposits for electric, water, gas, and cable company. I would suggest that you find out how much this will cos all together, save that amount plus two/three months rent, and then move into an apartment!
