How to become a bone marrow donor
How I did it: I had decided that I needed to do more to give back to the community and made the decision to join the bone marrow donor registry with the National Marrow Donor Program. It only takes about 10-15 minutes time to complete the questionnaire, which at completion, a tissue typing test is sent to you by mail. Once received, swab each corner of your mouth with the 4 swabs provided and mail out. Simple as that. :]
I may never need to donate my bone marrow, but every person that joins, has the potential to drastically change the lives of those in need. There are many individuals in need of bone marrow transplants that do not have matches, so I urge everyone that is open to the procedure (do a little research first) to become a potential donor. You could be the hero that they have been waiting for. :]
Lessons & tips: Give whenever possible. Good things will happen to good people. :]
